i have downloaded the 32 bit English DVD iso 3x. 1st time i used my own dl manager 2nd and 3rd times I used the java download manager. I burned the DVD 2x from Linux with K3b, 1x with Nero OEM that came with my Liteon 16x DVD writer. From Windows XP I burned the DVD at 8x even though my media and burner support 16. I used Data verification with nero. With Linux i checked the md5 sum and it checked ok. Problem: I get the black screen with the grey/white progress bar "windows is loading files". Then it very BRIEFLY flashes to the black screen with the bubbly colored Windows graphics. After 1 or 2 seconds, the screen just goes blank and the system freezes. I cannot toggle the caps lock or num lock on the ps2 keyboard so I know the system is a goner. I've had this motherboard for 2+ years, the CPU for 1 year and the RAM for 4 months or so. I have 2 GB of PC2700. No overclocking. This system runs a dual boot Windows XP and Gentoo Linux 2.6.16 kernel rock solid. Can anyone tell me why I cannot successfully boot the Beta 2 Vista 32bit English DVD on my system?
Thank you

DVD won't fully boot on ASUS A7N8X-X Athlon XP 2800 Barton
I don't know how reliable the md5 is although if it's an md5 designated for the Vista X86 you're using it should be, (you might try downloading a CRC tool)l but if I were you:
1) I'd burn from XP at 4X again, and then run the setup *from XP
2) Using Nero I'd make sure I started the burn from the ISO tab Nero provides a
3) Make sure you close the session using Nero I'd make sure I started the burn from the ISO tab Nero provides and
4) I'd also add this little tweak:
Get to Dev Manager by typing devmgmt.msc in run/win key + pause break or Rt.click My Computer>Prop>hardware tab>Device Manager if you like 5 steps instead of one cmd. If you're set to PMI here change to DMO and if set to DMO change to PMI:
a.. Click the + in front of IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers a.. Double Click the Secondary IDE Controller a.. Click Advanced Settings a.. Under Device 1 Next to Transfer Mode choose DMA (or vise versa) a.. Click OK a.. Reboot your System
Good luck,

i get the grey windows is loading files. when it gets to the graphical part, the part with color, the screen goes black and the system is frozen. can't toggle the caps or num lock so i know the system is hung. this system runs windows xp and gentoo linux rock solid. anyone with this motherboard had luck booting the 32 bit Vista Beta 2? i've burned it 3x. from xp i get not valid win32 app. also tried md5 sum, check ok and burn from linux. same problem. thanks...
I installed x86 Beta2 on an A7N8X-E (Athlon XP 3200, 1GB RAM) and found there were long periods when the system appeared to be hung - blank screen with no indication of activity and periods when the mouse and keyboard were unresponsive although the mouse cursor and/or dialog boxes were on screen - but left it and the system came back and the install completed successfully.
I think you just need to be patient.

If you are getting an error message that "setup.exe is not a valid win32 app." then it is very likely that you have the x64 version of Vista, and not the x86 version. Do you have a 64-bit CPU?

negative. the file name says x86. i have downloaded it twice to be sure. i will try the previous idea, i.e. let it sit for a while and see what happens. thanks to all who replied
